A cooperative managed by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has announced the opening of a new hospital, costing $170 million.
The Akuressa Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society (MPCS) has begun building a five-story hospital in Akuressa, with an estimated cost of Rs. 170 million. The foundation stone was laid by Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) MP Vijitha Herath.
During his speech, Herath stressed that even a bankrupt nation can be revived to deliver high-quality services and generate profits through effective leadership, vision, and unity. He praised the Akuressa Cooperative Society for leading by example with this project.
“The National People’s Power has the same potential to rebuild the country, supported by talented and committed citizens,” Herath remarked.
The event saw participation from officials of the Cooperative Development Commission, government personnel, medical professionals, members of the Akuressa business community, and numerous local residents.
The Akuressa MPCS, chaired by W.T.K. Rajapaksa and managed by a JVP-led committee for almost two decades, has generated profits worth Rs. 2 billion, which will be used to fund the hospital’s construction. (Newswire)
